40 Disadvantaged Miami Children To Receive Pro Bono Dental Care
DR. KARENT SIERRA HOLDS FIRST OFFICIAL “SHARING SMILES DAY”
The Sharing Smiles Foundation will hold the first of a series of quarterly “Sharing Smiles Days” this Friday, May 11, 2012 from 9:00AM-4:00PM., with Dr. Karent Sierra, known as a “dentist to the stars” and TV personality, at the helm. For this inaugural event, a group of 40 children, ages 3-17, will be transported to Dr. Sierra’s office for the day, where a team of dentists under her direction will attend to their dental needs pro bono. From first time examinations, to checkups to X-rays and fillings, they will put their magic to use and help these kids smile showing them care, and one-on-one attention.

CBS anchor Marybel Rodriguez, Creativas President Liza Santana Piñeres and Dr. Karent Sierra at the Sharing Smiles foundation launch
Dr. Sierra, who has a myriad professional accomplish-ments and is one of the most recognizable faces in South Florida as a dentist and spokesperson to a potpourri of brands, has also become an ambassador for many charitable organizations including her own: Sharing Smiles. Launched three years ago as a 501C3 organization by Dr. Sierra, CBS anchor Marybel Rodriguez, Creativas Group President Liza Santana, and a handful of other South Florida professionals, has a vital mission: To “aid disadvantaged children with dental services as well as assist [children] in need of basic necessities via collaborations to include working with other local, regional and national charitable organizations.”
The first Sharing Smiles Day will take place in collaboration with Children’s Home Society of South Florida, Southeastern Division, serves more than 2,000 children and families in Miami-Dade County each month. With a wide array of programs and facilities throughout Miami, it’s no wonder that CHS is the largest, most well-known and respected child- and family-serving organization in Florida.
Thanks to a host of sponsors, the children will get to really enjoy their “day at the dentist,” starting with complimentary “Zumbatomic” classes, the Zumba® Fitness program designed exclusively for kids. Zumbatomic classes are rockin’, high-energy fitness-parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love, including hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia and more. Parents love Zumbatomic because of the effects it has on kids: increasing their focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination.
Also making a guest appearance will be Ron Magill, an American wildlife expert and photographer, communications director of the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens, and TV personality. He will bring some furry friends with him during his visit.
The group of children will receive an array of goodies courtesy of The Miami Heat, Pookie Charmz and Delta Dental. Sharing Smiles honorary Board Member DJ “Sean” Vertigo, official DJ of the Florida Marlins, will serve as emcee and music guru with DJ Dean Michaels.
To keep the kids energetic for what will possibly be their first dental visit, Rosillo & Associates P.A. will sponsor healthy bites, while refreshments will be provided courtesy of Activate. Of course, there will be cupcakes, too, courtesy of two South Florida cupcake masters: LA Sweets and InStyle. Off the heels of appearing on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” LA Sweets recently launched a celebrity charity-flavor initiative where their red velvet was renamed the “Sharing Smiles Cupcake.” A portion of the sales of that flavor is destined to the foundation whose name it now carries. A similar effort was released by them with superstar Pitbull and his “Imaginate Foundation.”
