- ALBA AWARD: Esther Tellechea. As Executive Director of Hispanic AIDS Awareness Program (HAAP), she has been instrumental in HIV/AIDS education in Florida for over 23 years, developing educational training sessions, outreach material, and information to raise awareness about the threat of HIV/AIDS in the Hispanic and Spanish-speaking communities throughout Florida. HAAP is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of HIV/AIDS and its mission is to provide education and facilitate the open exchange of information to help prevent HIV infections and improve the lives of those affected and infected by STDs/HIV/AIDS. The educational materials developed by Esther and her collaborators are utilized throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and South and Central America, and a major prevention campaign was honored by an EMMY nomination.

Ruiz, Professor and Director of the Institute for Communication, Entertainment, & Media at St. Thomas University; Maricarmen Sega, President of Peruvian American Chamber of Commerce of South Florida; Kimberly Shenker-Bacardi, Founder of Kim’s Good Karma Group; and Beatriz Torrente, President of Resume Again.
COST: Tickets are $50 per person. Each ticket sold will buy a Thanksgiving meal for the hungry and homeless at the Miami Rescue Mission.
