With South Florida’s economy stabilizing and the region becoming an increasingly important hub for international commerce, one of its leading community banks is expanding its focus on global banking to meet growing demand among individuals and companies entering the market and expanding here. Apollo Bank, a locally-owned and operated bank with $250 million in assets, is tapping into this growth by adding senior level talent and broadening its platform of private banking services for international clients. Leading this effort will be two international banking veterans —Jamie Ortega, Jr. and Isabel M. Gómez— who bring more than 60 years of combined experience to the Apollo Bank team.

This emphasis on international banking comes on the heels of a three-year period that has seen the bank concentrate on expanding its domestic clientele following years of growth among international clients. The bank’s asset base has grown by nearly 50 percent during that span, including 20 percent year over year growth each of the past three years.

Spearheading Apollo Bank’s growth in this area will be Jaime Ortega, Jr. and Isabel M. Gómez, two seasoned international banking professionals with deep roots in South Florida and Latin America.

As a Senior Vice President and head of Apollo Bank’s global banking practice, Mr. Ortega will focus on expanding the Bank’s Latin American client base and maintaining and enhancing the services available to international businesses. Mr. Ortega, a 30-year veteran of the banking and finance sector, previously served as Senior Vice President for Banco Exterior de España/Argentaria’s Miami agency and as Manager for the International Division of Banco Exterior in Panama. Mr. Ortega also worked as the head of domestic and international lending in Miami for Espirito Santo Bank of Florida, a wholly owned subsidiary of Banco Espirito Santo, Lisbon, Portugal. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Miami and his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in New Orleans.

Another key addition to Apollo Bank’s global banking division is Isabel M. Gómez, who will serve as Vice President – Global Banking Officer. Ms. Gomez’s career in South Florida’s banking landscape has spanned more than three decades. She has established letter of credit divisions at multiple banking institutions and served as a top commercial lender at various banks. Prior to joining Apollo Bank, she served as Senior Vice President at TotalBank, a subsidiary of Banco Popular de España, where she was instrumental in growing the bank’s commercial lending division.
